HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 42

Campbell, Willis, Yeager and Wright)
Urging the West Virginia Division of Highways to conduct a study
of ways to make Interstate 64 at Sandstone Mountain safer
for motorists.
Whereas, Interstate 64 at Sandstone Mountain may be the
longest, steep grade of interstate in the State; and
Whereas, The Sandstone Mountain section of Interstate 64 is
in a remote area with limited access to and from other areas; and
Whereas, The Sandstone Mountain section of Interstate 64 has
been the scene of numerous vehicle accidents and traffic flow
disruptions; and
Whereas, Inclement weather often results in truck traffic
being halted on the mountain causing disruptions in all traffic
flow and help being delayed due to the remoteness of the area and
limited access from other areas; and
Whereas, Many motorists experience unnecessary anxiety, fear
and stress while traveling Sandstone Mountain because of the
unusually long, steep grade, the history of accidents, deaths and
traffic flow blockage, and the remoteness of the area should help
be needed; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the West Virginia Division of Highways is urged to
conduct a study of ways to make Interstate 64 at Sandstone
Mountain safer for motorists; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
Governor and Secretary of Transportation.
